I had a very pleasant morning yesterday. I made my way down to Surfas to see a food demo by the completely endearing ladies of On The Lamb event planning. How amazing to have a business with your best friends and be doing precisely the thing you love. I want this. And also they’re so cool!
The theme was strawberries and they made a strawberry basil lemon soda, a strawberry black pepper biscuit with arugula salad, and a strawberry banana cream pie. It’s quite possible that I fell in love with the strawberry black pepper biscuit. I have a special place in my heart for fruit mixed with spicy notes. The strawberries were slightly dehydrated, which I’ve never thought to do and am completely enthused about trying. I’m percolating ideas for the next catering event.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It felt like a necessary break from thesis-focused ruminating and like I was treating myself but also getting something out of it. And also there was something perfect about going alone and not having to converse, observing, and never actually interacting with a human being.
I did have this hilarious moment while I was sitting there, watching the demo and I thought of all the dental seminars that my mom was absolutely elated about throughout my childhood and how saeyoung and I would roll our eyes at her bouncing off the walls about the newest developments in gum renewal technology and I realized that I will totally be that kind of mother that is constantly forcing my children to attend food-related events with me until I’m completely immune to their whiney, “Mom, I can’t go to any more cheese tastings” or “Mom, don’t make me attend another cake decorating class”. To which, I will respond, “Oh c’mon, you’ll thank me later for this.”
uhm, not that I plan on having kids…
that’s probably not going to happen.
I’m just saying…
